Physical and Chemical Properties
High Carbon Silicon

Hardness and Strength

Silicon Carbon Alloy is relatively hard and maintains good mechanical properties, especially at high temperatures.

Silicon Carbon Alloy

Thermal Stability

The alloy is thermally stable and can withstand high temperatures in the metallurgical process.

Carburization Effect

The carbon content helps increase the carbon content in steel, improving hardness, strength, and wear resistance.

Usage of High Carbon Silicon

Improve the quality of molten steel: High carbon silicon can optimize the quality of molten steel, improve the quality of products, reduce the amount of alloy added, reduce the cost of steelmaking, and increase economic benefits.

Deoxidation: In the process of steelmaking, high-carbon silicon can quickly reduce the oxygen content in molten steel, improve the purity of molten steel, and improve the quality of steel.

Promote graphite lattication: In casting, high-carbon silicon can promote the formation of graphite lattication and spheroidal ink, improve casting quality, and reduce the occurrence of hot metal plug.

Slag collection: High-carbon silicon has the advantage of slag collection, which can make the oxide in the steelmaking process quickly clump, easy to filter, make the molten steel more pure, and greatly improve the density and hardness of steel.

Dephosphorization: In converter smelting, the role of high-carbon silicon also includes dephosphorization, decarburization and heating, which is conducive to improving the dephosphorization capacity of later slag and reducing the probability of phosphorus return.

Process of HC-Si Alloy

Silicon Carbon Alloy is typically produced by the following process:
Raw Materials: Quartz (SiO₂) and coke or coal are used as primary raw materials.
Smelting Process: The alloy is smelted at high temperatures (around 1600–2000°C) in submerged arc furnaces, where silicon oxide reacts with carbon sources to form silicon carbide (SiC). SiO2+3C→SiC+2CO.
Product Forms: The final product is usually in granular, lump, or powder form, making it easy to transport and use.

FAQ

Q: What is ferrosilicon alloy used for?

A: Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is an alloy of iron and silicon with a very variable silicon content between 10% and 90%. It is used as a so-called master alloy in steel production, which is added in small amounts in order to adjust the properties of the melt, the cooling process and the finished product.

Q: What is the difference between silicon and ferrosilicon?

A: Silicon metal and ferrosilicon are both important materials in the metallurgical and chemical industries, but they serve distinct purposes and have different properties. Silicon metal is a pure form of silicon, while ferrosilicon is an alloy that combines silicon with iron.

Q: How do you make ferro silicon?

A: The process of Ferrosilicon production involves the reduction of sand or silica (Si) with coke / coal (C), and then reacting it with iron (Fe) which can be obtained from scraps.

Q: Where does ferro silicon come from?

A: Ferrosilicon is produced by reduction of silica or sand with coke in the presence of scrap iron, mill scale, or other source of iron in submerged arc electric furnaces. An excess of silica over the stoichiometric requirement has to be used to prevent the formation of silicon carbide.

Q: Are you a factory or a trading company ?

A: We are a factory and trading company at the same time.

Q: How about the quality of the products ?

A: Our products are of high quality and we have registered and reputable brands.

Q: What's the MOQ for each items ?

A: 100 pieces.

Q: What's our shipping ways ?

A: We can provide different types of shipping such as sea, air, and land.

Q: What is your terms of packing?

A: Generally, we pack our goods in neutral white boxes and cartons. If you have legally registered patent, we can pack the goods in your branded boxes after getting your authorization letters.

Q: How about your delivery time?

A: Generally, it will take 20 to 30 days after receiving your advance payment. The specific delivery time depends on the items and the quantity of your order.

Q: Can you produce according to the samples?

A: Yes, we can produce by your samples or technical drawings. We can build the molds and fixtures.

Q: What is your sample policy?

A: We can supply the sample if we have ready parts in stock, but the customers have to pay the sample cost and the courier cost.

Q: Do you test all your goods before delivery?

A: Yes, we have 100% test before delivery.
