Ferro Silicon

Ferro silicon is an iron alloy composed of iron and silicon. It is made of coke, steel scraps and quartz (or silica) through electric furnace smelting. It is silver-gray, hard and has excellent deoxidation and desulfurization properties. Since silicon and oxygen can easily combine to form silicon dioxide, it is often used as a deoxidizer in the steelmaking process. This reaction can not only effectively remove oxygen from molten steel, but also release a large amount of heat, which helps to increase the temperature of molten steel. In the steelmaking process, deoxidation in the final stage of steelmaking is an indispensable key link to ensure that steel with qualified chemical composition and quality is obtained. Since silicon and oxygen have a strong chemical affinity, ferro silicon, as a powerful steelmaking deoxidizer, can be effectively used for precipitation deoxidation and diffusion deoxidation. In addition, adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel. In addition, it can also be used as an alloying element additive and is widely used in the production of low-alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel. Ferro silicon is also often used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production and the chemical industry.
