Manganese

Manganese is a silver-white transition metal with a slight gray tinge. It is a hard and brittle solid at room temperature, with a melting point of 1246°C and a boiling point of 2061°C, showing typical characteristics of high melting point metals. It is chemically active and easily oxidizes in air to form a dense oxide film. It burns violently at high temperatures to form various oxides (e.g. MnO₂, MN-₃ O₄). Reacting with acid releases hydrogen gas, producing the pale pink Mn² + solution, a property that makes it commonly used as a reducing agent in the laboratory.
In industrial applications, the core value of it is reflected in alloy manufacturing. As the "vitamin" of the iron and steel industry, manganese steel made of 10%-15% manganese has both ultra-high strength and impact resistance, and is widely used in rail, excavator buckets and bulletproof materials. Adding manganese to aluminum alloys can significantly improve corrosion resistance and structural strength, and electrolytic metal manganese becomes a key raw material for stainless steel production. In addition, as a highly efficient catalyst, manganese dioxide is used in chemical synthesis and wastewater treatment, and plays an important role in the cathode materials of dry batteries and lithium-ion batteries.
