Calcined anthracite is used for carburizing of various electric smelting furnaces, casting steel and iron, chemical environmental protection: water treatment filter material, flue gas desulfurization adsorbent carrier. It is used to make aggregates for graphite electrodes, cathode carbon blocks, and lithium battery negative electrode materials to enhance conductivity and structural strength.

Anthracite is calcined in an electric furnace or gas furnace at a temperature of more than 1200°C to reduce the volatile matter, moisture and sulfur content to less than 2%. Calcined anthracite has excellent particle stability and good physical properties like graphite. Calcined anthracite is used to make electrodes, electrode paste, ramming paste, carburizing, etc. It is also used in the construction of the furnace bottom of casting furnaces and steelmaking furnaces such as converters, blast furnaces, and electric arc furnaces.
